How we source, verify and correct information
Last updated: 2026-10-21
This page explains where the numbers on NZ Pathway come from, how often they are checked, how corrections work, and how the site is funded. It applies to every guide, tool and data file on the site.
Who is responsible
NZ Pathway is written and maintained by Lei Wang, a programmer and independent developer based in China who is preparing a New Zealand 6-point Skilled Migrant Category application. He is not a licensed immigration adviser, not an agent, and not affiliated with Immigration New Zealand. More at the author page.
What we publish, and what we do not
We publish general information about New Zealand immigration, free calculation tools, and dated data files that the tools and guides read from. We do not give advice on individual circumstances, do not predict application outcomes, and do not provide representative services. If your situation needs a decision, consult a Licensed Immigration Adviser (IAA) or another licensed professional.
Sources we use
Primary sources, in order of preference:
- Immigration New Zealand (INZ) visa pages, operational manual and amendment circulars;
- Inland Revenue (IRD) tax rates, ACC levy and student loan guidance;
- Employment New Zealand, MBIE, Stats NZ and other government pages;
- Official body pages for professional registration (for example Teaching Council, Nursing Council, EWRB).
Third-party sources (news, forums, other blogs) are used only as leads. A figure is not published until it has been checked against the official page itself.
How verification works
Every guide shows two dates: when the text was updated, and when its data was last
verified against an official source. Each guide lists the sources it relies on. The
calculators do not hard-code figures: they read from JSON data files whose
_meta block records the source URL and verification date.
Review cadence
Policy changes: checked against new INZ amendment circulars when they are published, and corrected in the same week where the change affects a page. Routine data (fees, wage thresholds, processing times, tax parameters): re-verified at least every 90 days, with high-risk figures (fees, median wage, tax rates) checked more often. Pages older than 90 days without a fresh check are treated as stale and re-verified before they are promoted anywhere.
Corrections
Corrections are the most useful feedback we get. Write to [email protected] or use the contact form with the page URL and the figure you believe is wrong. Verified corrections are usually published within three working days, and the change is recorded in the site changelog.
AI assistance
AI tools are used for drafting, restructuring and editing text. They are not used to invent figures, and no page is published without the facts, dates and links being checked against the official sources by the site owner. When an AI-assisted draft and an official page disagree, the official page wins and the draft is rewritten.
Advertising and affiliate links
The site is free and funded by advertising. No affiliate links are currently active; if a clearly-marked affiliate link is added later, any commission will be disclosed on the page and in the disclaimer. Advertising and commercial relationships never influence which tools or data we publish, and no one can pay to change a figure or a ranking.
Independence
NZ Pathway is independent: it is not owned by, sponsored by, or affiliated with Immigration New Zealand or any licensed adviser, recruiter or relocation company. There are no paid placements in the guides, no paid mentions in the tools, and no sponsored rankings.
